The New Zealand Mint has released its 10th coin in the popular “Warriors of History” series on October 30. The warriors featured on this coin are some of the most feared in all of human history: the Huns. The Huns were renowned for their skill with the bow and the terrifying efficiency with which they wielded their own version of a weapon that far surpassed any European counterpart in range and accuracy. Under Attila’s leadership, the Huns proved to be the most powerful military force of their time, laying waste to virtually any who dared to oppose them. To commemorate this force of military might, the New Zealand Mint has released a 1-ounce silver coin.
The reverse of the coin features a full-color illustration of a Hunnic warrior set against an antique-finished backdrop of fellow Huns charging into battle. HUNS can be read in the upper-left quadrant of the coin.
The obverse of the coin features the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of HM Elizabeth II. Inscriptions read clockwise from the lower left: ELIZABETH II, NIUE, and TWO DOLLARS. The date of issue, 2017, is below the effigy.
The coin has a limited mintage of just 5,000 pieces and contains 1 troy ounce of .999 fine silver. Each coin is presented in a chic, red rectangular case along with a uniquely numbered certificate of authenticity.
