2018 marks the 90th anniversary of the magical relationship between Mickey and Minnie Mouse, which first became canon in Steamboat Willie in 1928. Operating essentially as the face of Disney, Mickey and Minnie Mouse are two of the most iconic figures in all of television history. To commemorate this momentous occasion, the New Zealand Mint has released a 1-ounce silver Proof coin produced by Niue. The unique, heart-shaped coin has a limited mintage of 10,000 pieces and is composed of .999 fine silver. This is only the fourth Disney coin released by the New Zealand Mint which features the theme of love.

The reverse of the coin features a black-and-white illustration of Mickey and Minnie innocently forming a heart with their hands, set against an applied-color red background. The word LOVE can be seen in the background with inscription 1 oz 999 Fine Silver © Disney along the bottom.

The obverse of the coin features the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of HM Queen Elizabeth II. Inscriptions read clockwise around the obverse: ELIZABETH IINIUE, and 2 DOLLARS, with the issue year, 2018, below the effigy.

Each coin is presented in love-themed packaging which resembles a book. Inside of the package is a “Ticket to my Heart” which is removable and can be customized with your own message. Additionally, each coin’s number in the mintage of 10,000 pieces is included for confirmation of authenticity.
