Fourth and final coin in popular Beatrix Potter 2017 Collection now available for pre-order

The fourth and final release in the Beatrix Potter 2017 Collection features Benjamin Bunny and is now available for pre-order. The Tale of Benjamin Bunny is distinct from Potter’s other four books given that the story was written entirely from scratch, unlike the aforementioned which were based on her own private letters. Benjamin Bunny’s tale is a sequel to The Tale of Peter Rabbit, and the plot revolves around Benjamin Bunny working to retrieve his cousin Peter’s clothes from Mr. McGregor’s garden, where they were lost in the previous tale. While not as well-received as The Tale of Peter Rabbit, The Tale of Benjamin Bunny was still successful in its own right and was so despite the fact that Potter encountered many more challenges in producing the tale than her other works. Normally, she produced a story around her illustrated letters to real children, whereas with The Tale of Benjamin Bunny she had to work under a strict deadline by publishers and had to produce her artwork at the same time that she wrote the story.

Like previous coins in the series, Benjamin Bunny is available in two versions: A Brilliant Uncirculated copper-nickel coin and a silver Proof coin with added color. The .925 sterling silver coin showcases how effective color printing can be. The tiniest details, like Benjamin’s striped blanket and radish, have been highlighted by the technique and enhanced by the coin’s Proof finish. Both versions are presented in a heptagonal shape.

The reverse depicts Benjamin himself, facing the viewer, with his blanket in his right hand and a radish in his left. The legend, BENJAMIN BUNNY, reads counter-clockwise from lower left around the main design. The initials en, for designer Emma Noble, appear at lower right, just below Benjamin’s jacket.

The obverse depicts the effigy of HM Queen Elizabeth II as designed by Jody Clark, whose initials, J.C., appear below the base of the neck. The surrounding legend, including the date of issue, reads clockwise from the top: ELIZABETH II • DEI • GRA • REG • FID • DEF • 2017.
