Perth Mint Releases 2016 Dirk Hartog Australian Landing Stamp and Coin Cover

The Perth Mint has released the 2016 Dirk Hartog Australian Landing 1616-2016 Stamp and Coin Cover, which is available for $16.32 AUD ($12.22 USD). The featured $1 coin is an aluminum bronze version of the silver Proof high relief piece released in June and commemorates the 400th anniversary of Dirk Hartog’s arrival in Australia aboard the Eendracht; this was the first documented European landing in Australia, according to a press release.

0-01-2016-dirkhartog-albr-onedge-lowres-newsmallDesigned by Wade Robinson, the reverse features an image of the Eendracht beside a compass. Inscribed on this side of the coin are DIRK HARTOG, FIRST LANDING, OCTOBER 1616, and the Perth Mint’s “P” mint mark.

The obverse carries Ian Rank-Broadley’s effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, with the inscriptions ELIZABETH II, AUSTRALIA, 2016, and 1 DOLLAR included along the rim.

The stamp included with this cover is an official Australia Post $2 stamp postmarked from the first day of issue. The coin is housed in a presentation card that reveals both its obverse and reverse.
