A Look at the Perth Mint’s 2017 Gold and Silver Bullion Programs

The Perth Mint has shared information on its upcoming 2017 bullion program. The following issues are presented in the order they will be released, with the first set of 2017 Rooster bullion coins expected to become available on September 12 of this year.

Next year will be the Year of the Rooster on the Chinese Zodiac calendar, which employs a 12-animal cycle that starts over every dozen years. This range of coins is composed of 99.99% gold and will be issued in eight sizes ranging from 1/20-ounce to 1 kilo. Inscribed on the reverse is the Chinese character for “rooster,” YEAR OF THE ROOSTER, and the Perth Mint’s “P” mint mark.

The silver Year of the Rooster series includes seven 99.99% silver coins ranging in size from 1/2-ounce to 10 kilos. This reverse design features a rooster, a hen, and three chicks with the inscriptions YEAR OF THE ROOSTER, the Chinese character for “rooster,” and the Perth Mint’s “P” mint mark. As noted above, all of the gold and silver rooster bullion coins will be released on September 12.

On October 10, the Mint will begin taking orders for the 2017 Australian Kangaroo gold bullion coins, which are composed of 99.99% gold and will be available in sizes ranging from 1/10-ounce to one kilo. The one-kilo coin shares its kangaroo reverse image with the Silver Kangaroo issue, and carries the inscriptions, AUSTRALIAN KANGAROO, 1 KILO, 9999 GOLD, 2017, RED KANGAROO, and the Perth Mint’s “P” mint mark. The other issues feature a new 2017 depiction of a kangaroo hopping across the Australian outback, with AUSTRALIAN KANGAROO, 2017, 9999 GOLD, the weight, and the mint mark inscribed along the rim.

The 2017 Australian Kookaburra silver issues will also be released on October 10. These three 99.99% silver coins will share a new reverse design, which shows two kookaburras perched on a wooden fence. Inscribed on this side of the coin will be AUSTRALIAN KOOKABURRA, 2017, 1 KILO, 999 SILVER, and the mint mark. The 2017 Silver Kookaburras will be sold as 1-ounce, 10-ounce, or 1-kilo pieces.

The 2017 Australian Kangaroo silver bullion coin will be released on November 14. Composed of an ounce of 99.99% silver, the current Silver Kangaroo design debuted in late 2015 and features an image of a kangaroo in motion, with the inscriptions AUSTRALIAN KANGAROO, 2017, 1 OZ 9999 SILVER, and the “P” mint mark included along the rim.

Finally, the Mint will release its 2017 Australian Koala silver bullion coins on January 9, 2017. Love these beautiful offerings from the Perth Mint! I wish the USA would get more creative with the sizes and designs of bullion they offer. Yes, the American Eagle products are excellent, but we could have some more variety, I think.
