The Royal Australian Mint has issued the 2016 VC Commodore Colored Uncirculated Coin as part of a batch of eleven 12-sided coins featuring classic cars from Australian car manufacturer, Holden. The coins in this series retail for $15 and have mintage limits of 30,000 pieces each.
The obverse of the VC Commodore coin carries an image of a red Commodore backed by a stylized Australian sunset. The coin’s 50-cents denomination is inscribed beside the car’s name, COMMODORE, with HOLDEN HERITAGE COLLECTION and 1980-1981 appearing along the rim.
The obverse features Ian Rank-Broadley’s effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, with ELIZABETH II, AUSTRALIA, and 2016 inscribed along the rim.
The coins in this series are composed of cupro-nickel and feature an Uncirculated finish. Other cars featured in this collection include the LJ Torana GTR XU 1, the HX Sandman, the HQ Kingswood, the HK Monaro, the FJ Holden, the FE Holden, the FC Holden, the FB Holden, the EH Holden, and the 48 215 FX Holden.
