The Perth Mint has released two “Star Trek: The Original Series” Stamp and Coin Covers featuring Spock and the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701 in honor of the 50th anniversary of the show’s 1966 debut. Each cover includes an original Australia Post stamp and $1 coin, both of which carry images from the original Star Trek television show.
These issues have no listed mintage limits and are each available for $22.68 AUD ($17.30 USD).
The reverse of the Spock coin features a color image of Leonard Nimoy as Spock, the Vulcan-human first officer aboard the U.S.S. Enterprise. Spock is seen giving the famous Vulcan salute; inscribed on this side of the issue are SPOCK and the Perth Mint’s “P” mint mark.
The reverse of the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701 coin features an image of the ship moving through space with the inscriptions STAR TREK, THE ORIGINAL SERIES, U.S.S. ENTERPRISE NCC-1701, and the Perth Mint’s “P” mint mark.
The coins share an obverse design that includes Ian Rank-Broadley’s portrait of Queen Elizabeth II and the inscriptions QUEEN ELIZABETH II, 1 DOLLAR, 2016, and TUVALU, the country of issue.
The coins are composed of 13.5 grams of aluminum bronze and measure 30.6 mm in diameter. They each are held in a protective card with a window that displays both the obverse and reverse of the coin. A seal of authenticity appears on an outer envelope, along with an official Australia Post $1 postage stamp, which has been postmarked for the first day of issue.
