Canada’s 2016 Weather Phenomenon “Radiant Rainbow” Silver Proof Coin

The Royal Canadian Mint has begun taking orders for its new 2016 Weather Phenomenon – Radiant Rainbow 1 oz. Fine Silver Coin, which carries a Proof finish and has a mintage limit of 8,000 pieces. Pre-orders began this week and have already exceeded 87% of the available inventory.

Composed of 99.99% pure silver, the one-ounce coin measures 38 mm in diameter and can be purchased for $99.95 CAD.

The reverse, designed by Tony Bianco, features an color depiction of a rainbow sloping out of a blue sky. A farmhouse and its surrounding landscape are engraved in silver, contrasting with the sky above and highlighting the rainbow’s colorful intrusion. Inscribed around the rim of the coin are CANADA, 2016, and the monetary denomination, 20 DOLLARS.

The reverse features Susanna Blunt’s portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, with the inscriptions ELIZABETH II and D.G. REGINA (a Latin abbreviation for “By the Grace of God, Queen”) included in the field.
