Perth Mint Releases 2016 Australian Kangaroo 2 oz Silver Antiqued Coin


Today, February 2, the Perth Mint has issued the 2016 Australian Kangaroo 2 oz Silver Antiqued High Relief Coin, which has a mintage limited to 3,000 pieces and is available for $180.91 AUD ($127.98 USD).

Composed of two ounces of .999 silver, the new antiqued Silver Kangaroo was designed by Wade Robinson and is struck in high relief in a rimless format. It measures 40.50 mm in diameter and is 6 mm thick.


The coin’s reverse features a detailed image of a kangaroo hopping through its Australian environment, with a lizard placed in the foreground near the bottom of the design. The Perth Mint’s “P” mint mark is included along the rim.

The obverse carries Ian Rank-Broadley’s portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, with ELIZABETH II, AUSTRALIA, 2 DOLLARS, 2 oz 999 SILVER, and 2016 inscribed along the rim.


Each coin comes packaged in a latex display case with a numbered certificate of authenticity.

    I quite like this coin, I just couldn’t bring myself to pay $200 for it. Maybe this hobby is getting beyond me? :o(

    I ordered 3! First 2 oz Silver Antiqued High Relief Coin issued by/for the government of Australia and not from Tuvalu or some other nation. I know a lot don’t like it but I do and I’m surprised with the 3k mintage their are only 355 left. I think in time it will grow on people.
