The New Zealand Mint has issued three coins in a Star Wars: The Force Awakens collection featuring new characters from the blockbuster film. Each of these Proof coins is composed of an ounce of silver that is 99.9% pure, with a mintage limit of 10,000 units and a diameter of 40 mm. They are available for $85.00 a piece.
The latest release in the series is the Rey 1 oz. Silver Coin, the obverse of which features images of Daisy Ridley as Rey, with the landscape of her home planet, Jakku, in the background. Each coin’s reverse carries the Star Wars logo in silver, with the inscription 1 oz. 999 FINE SILVER.
The Captain Phasma 1 oz. Silver Coin is the second release in the series and features silver and color images of Captain Phasma commanding the First Order’s legions of Troopers.
The series launched in September with the Kylo Ren 1 oz. Silver Coin, which features silver and color images of the character commanding First Order missions and wielding his unique lightsaber.
These coins share a common obverse, which includes Ian Rank-Broadley’s portrait of Queen Elizabeth II with the inscriptions ELIZABETH II, 2016, TWO DOLLARS, and NIUE, the country of issue, placed along the rim. A certificate of authenticity is included in the packaging.
The New Zealand Mint has also launched a “Star Wars Classic” series, which has thus far released coins featuring Darth Vader and Han Solo. For more information on the New Zealand Mint’s Star Wars coins, please visit its Web site.

Pass!! These are like the Star Trek coins. Looks like a picture of movie frame was stuck on to the coin. No creativity.

Yes, these type of coins you can easily see the dots from the “printer” on them,. They are not stamped with color. Some are stamped then enamel is added. There are many types now a days that DO use color in the minting process. These type here are not that kind…Star Wars is being put out there on EVERYTHING!

i would suggest Dan write something about the RAM 2016 $5 Northern Sky Cassiopeia, which is sold out very quickly. it is one of the major coins from Australia, and, the previous southern sky coins perform very well in secondary market.

@ Samuel: Good suggestion; I do like the look of that coin. Unfortunately I ran out of time on that one, since it sold out so quickly.

The Royal Mint’s recent Star Wars First Day Covers with medals are nicer than this offering.
