The Royal Canadian Mint has issued the 2016 3/4 oz. Silver Howling Wolves bullion coins, composed of silver that is 99.99% pure and carrying a Brilliant Uncirculated finish. This is the second release in Canada’s Grey Wolf series, which celebrates the species’ return to prosperity after coming dangerously close to extinction.
The coin measures 38.1 mm in diameter and is 2.4 mm thick. New anti-counterfeiting features have been implemented and include radial lines on both sides of the coin, as well as the reverse’s small, micro-engraved maple leaf with “16” placed at the center.
The reverse was designed by Maurade Baynton and features two Grey Wolves howling over a snow-covered landscape, as the moon rises in the night sky behind them. Inscribed along the coin’s rim are CANADA, 2016, FINE SILVER, 3/4 OZ, the metal’s 9999 purity, and ARGENT PUR, French for “pure silver.”
The obverse features Susanna Blunt’s portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, with ELIZABETH II, D.G. REGINA, and the face value of 2 DOLLARS inscribed along the rim.
