The Perth Mint has started accepting orders for their first batch of new product releases for this year. The coins include the latest releases within the Australian Opal and Australian Posters of World War I series. There are also new coins to celebrate the Year of the Goat and the gilded edition of the Australian Koala.
All of the new coins can be found as the first entries within the recent releases section on the Perth Mint’s website.
The seventh release within the Australian Opal series of nocturnal animals features the Rough-Scaled Python. The reverse design of the coin incorporates an inner panel of pure Australian Opal which has been crafted to depict the animal. The outer panel contains a collection of fern fronds.
Each coin is struck in 1 oz of 99.9% silver and comes in a display case with a light which turns on when the case is opened. This is intended to represent the moonlight shining down on the nocturnal animal. The coin is limited to a mintage of 8,000 pieces.
Previous releases within the Australian Opal series have featured the Koala, Wombat, Kangaroo, Pygmy Possum, Tasmanian Devil, and Masked Owl. The eighth and final release of the series will feature the Ghost Bat.
The 2015 Australian Lunar Year of the Goat 5 oz Silver Proof Coin features this year’s design of a family of three goats standing within a rural scene. Each coin is struck in 5 troy oz of 99.9% pure silver with a diameter of 65.60 mm and maximum mintage of 5,000 pieces.
A second new release also celebrates the Year of the Goat along with the ideal of good fortune. The 1 oz 99.9% silver proof coin features a depiction of a goat standing in a colored scene of a cornucopia and treasure chest overflowing with gold coins and other riches.
Issued as legal tender under the authority of the Government of Tuvalu, the coins are limited to a mintage of 5,000 coins.
The same “Lunar Good Fortune” theme has been previously seen on a two coin set with separate coins for wealth and prosperity. The “Wealth” coin included in the set carries a different design than the present coin.
The gilded edition of the 2015 Australian Koala 1 oz Silver Coin is available. This year’s reverse design featuring an adult koala sitting in the fork of a eucalyptus tree amid a rural landscape is accentuated in 24 karat gold. The gilded edition is limited to a mintage of 5,000 pieces.
The second release within the Australian Posters of World War I series features a representation of David Henry Souter’s “Help” Red Cross recruitment poster, designed to inspire Australian nurses to join the Red Cross in support of the war effort. Each coin is struck in 1 troy oz of 99.9% pure silver with dimensions of 47.60 mm by 27.60 mm. The mintage is limited to 5,000 pieces.
