Canada 2013 25th Anniversary Silver Maple Leaf Bullion Coins

The Royal Canadian Mint has announced special edition 2013 Silver Maple Leaf bullion coins to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the offering.

Previously, the RCM has issued several numismatic products to mark the 25th anniversary of the Silver Maple Leaf, including a fractional set, 1 oz silver proof coin with selective gold plating, two 5 oz silver coins, and the recent high relief piedfort coin. In contrast, the new offering will be a bullion coin with a modified design, which should be available for only a modest mark up compared to the regular bullion coins.

2013 25th Anniversary Silver Maple Leaf

The reverse design of the 2013 25th Anniversary Silver Maple Leaf bullion coin features the well known Walter Ott maple leaf design with the large number “25” interlaced. The obverse contains the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II designed by Susanna Blunt.

Each coin carries a face value of $5 and contains the standard one troy once of .9999 fine silver. As with regular Silver Maple Leaf bullion coins, they will come packaged in mint tubes containing 25 coins, with full “monster boxes” containing 500 coins.

The RCM’s Ottawa facility will produce a limited mintage of one million of the special 25th anniversary edition bullion coin. In comparison, the regular 2013-dated 1 oz Silver Maple Leaf bullion coins have reached sales of 12.1 million through the first half of the year and are produced to demand.

The special edition coins will be distributed through bullion channels and not sold directly by the RCM to the public. Several bullion dealers are already accepting pre-orders for the coins with prices a few dollars above regular 1 oz silver bullion coins and shipping dates in the last week of November.

The special design and limited mintage makes this offering similar to the Canadian Wildlife Silver Bullion Coin Series which included six different designs dated from 2011 to 2013. Each design was limited to a mintage one million pieces. The earliest designs sold out quickly and command premiums.

Nice coin but ANY modern coin with a million IMHO will always be worth spot plus a lil more. Not much more! Collect these for bullion, not collector reasons. Just received a replacement for my 2012 Michelangelo and boy was I glad I exchanged it. This new one is a perfect 70 with perfect packaging. Very happy with that coin and service from the Royal Scandinavian Mint in Utah..

Actually for bullion coin 1 million is a low mintage. Compare with silver eagles at 40 plus million or pandas at 6 million. Also, the first wildlife coin, the wolf, had a one million mintage and sells for $50 today and was over $70 not long ago. I sold several at around $60 each that cost me $20 or less. This is why blanket statements are problematic.

So I have 10 ounce silver Canadian Maple Leaf 1999 coin. What is the market price of 1999 Canadian 10 ounce silver 10 anniversary Maple Leaf coins?

I had added five of these to a recent MCM order, and will use them to complement the other 25th Anny Silver Maple offerings I have collected this year. By far, my favorite issue among these is that Piedfort. WOW!.

Once these coins arrive, I’m most curious to closely examine that inter-laced reverse device of Maple Leaf and 25, with an focus on the depth of the voids within the numbers. Makes me wonder if there will be any possiblity for strike-through errors. Seeing this design also makes me wonder why the US Mint seems to be the only manufacturer with (publicized) metal flow issues, albeit for some less complex, 24K Gold offerings.

OT – FM / VABB – just FYI, MCM is having a Black Friday sale and has a lot of world coins listed, interesting selection

Thanks, VARich. I received their mass-mail notice earlier this AM. Agreed on the rather diverse selection with some very tempting prices. I’m really amazed at how much some of the graded WP Anny sets have been knocked down. When they hit the market, collectors were scrambling to find an SP/PR 70 FS Set for under $300. Now, MCM is struggling to sell those same sets for $225. Even with the greatly reduced, revised Mint sales, still looks like the market is flooded with those sets. Probably many years before collectors see an appreciable return, if any at all, on those purchases.

I mentioned that about the 2013 WP sets price drop on the US mint blog and was told to just hang on in seven years it will be a very profitable purchase.
