Perth Mint Sydney ANDA Coin Show Special

The Perth Mint has started accepting website orders for the Sydney ANDA Coin Show Special, which is a blue colored edition of the 2012 Year of the Dragon 1 oz. Silver Coin.

The 2012 Year of the Dragon Silver Coin within the Australian Lunar Series II features a dragon with a representation of a pearl. For this edition, the dragon is colored blue, which represents the healing element of water, prosperity, eternity, and peace.

No more than 5,000 of the ANDA Sydney Coin Show Specials will be released, which refers to the packaging format for the coin. (The blue colored 1 oz. Silver Dragon has previously been released in other formats including a Chinese Set with a mintage of 20,000 and an Australian Set with a mintage of 2,500.) Each coin is housed in an illustrated shipper with the logo of the Australasian Numismatic Dealers’ Association (ANDA) and the dates of the Sydney Show. .

The product page for this most recent release can be found here.

I believe this release will complete the series of five Year of the Dragon 1 oz Silver Coins issued for various coin shows. The previous releases have included:

  • Berlin World Money Fair: Black colored
  • ANDA Brisbane: Purple colored
  • ANDA Melbourne: Yellow colored
  • ANA Philadelphia: White colored

Of these prior coin show special Dragons, only the ANDA Melbourne and ANA Philadelphia coins remain available to order.

Additionally, there was a 2 oz colored Year of the Dragon coin released for the ANDA Perth Show, however frantic demand at the show resulted in the coins only being available on location, and not offered online.

Upcoming Product Releases

Looking ahead, the Perth Mint’s upcoming products section shows the upcoming releases scheduled for September 3, 2012, 12:00 Noon US Time. Highlights include the Australian Lunar Series II 2013 Year of the Snake Gold and Silver Proof Coins and the 2012 High Relief Australian Koala.

Around the same date, the bullion versions of the 2013 Year of the Snake gold and silver coins will be released, as well as the 2013 Silver Kookaburra. Next week, I will be able to share some images of the new designs for these coins.
