Perth Mint Melbourne ANDA Coin Show Special

The Perth Mint has opened website sales for the Melbourne ANDA Coin Show Special, which is a yellow colored edition of the 1 oz 2012 Year of the Dragon silver coin. This follows other colored Dragons offered in special packaging for previous coin shows.

This coin was released for the Melbourne Coin Show held July 7-8 and available to those attending the show for $90.00. Website sales opened later in the weekend at the same price. The product page can be found here.

The now familiar 2012 Year of the Dragon silver coin design is colored in yellow, struck from 1 troy ounce of 99.9% pure silver. Each coin comes in ANDA presentation packaging with a numbered certificate of authenticity.

Only 5,000 of the coins will be released by the Perth Mint, however this refers to the packaging option. The same yellow colored 1 oz 2012 Year of the Dragon Silver Coin has been included in a Chinese set with a mintage of 20,000 and Australian Set with a mintage of 2,500.

Previous coin show specials featuring Year of the Dragon coins have included a black colored 1 oz coin for the Berlin World Money Fair, a red colored 2 oz coin for the Perth ANDA show, and 1 oz purple colored coin for the Brisbane ANDA show. Another colored dragon is expected to be released for the Sydney coin show.

What a pity that the Perth Mint is repeating the same dragon theme over and over again.

and i dont like the way perthmint sells the coins now. they allocate too many for dealers, so basically their website is worthless now.

“Dragon-mania” appears to be grinding down to an end, finally. I’ve noticed sales of the last two colored releases are moving more and more slowly and some of the newer bullion releases (such as the red-colored ones on APMEX) are selling slowly and for very low prices compared to the initial bullion releases. I have a feeling we might see one more colored variety sold via the website, and that will be the end of the product line at last.

We’re less than two months away from the release 2013 snakes now.

I am done purchasing from the Perth mint. The 5oz proof Dragon, which they excluded US customers was the last drop. They are still for sale in their website. No one wants them, except us. One lesson: when our US Mint have a period between new and exciting products, save your money!
